What is The Softlands?

A handmade world for the children who feel things deeply.

The Softlands is a children's emotional storytelling universe — a place where every treasured toy has a story, every Softling has a feeling they're learning to carry, and every child gets to be the hero of their own gentle adventure. It started as a bedtime story for one small person, and grew into a whole world of personalised books, audiobooks and characters that help primary-school-age kids name the big stuff: bravery, worry, loneliness, love.

Personalised stories

Printed picture books and audiobooks starring your child, set in the Softlands and built around the feeling they're working through.

Meet the residents

Four little friends. Four big feelings.

Every Softling is built around a feeling children know but can't always name. These are the four heroes at the heart of the Softlands.

Ned, a Softling from Squish Quarter

Ned

Squish Quarter · The brave little bouncer

Turns nervous energy into brave little bounces.

Ned is the bounciest Softling in the Quarter. When a child feels wobbly before something new — a first day, a big stage, a dark hallway — Ned shows up with knees a little shaky and a heart a little bigger, and bounces first so they don't have to.

Loves: Puddles, countdowns, the word "ready".

Axi, a Softling from Slime Lagoon

Axi

Slime Lagoon · The keeper of quiet memories

Reads the echoes of old feelings and lost things.

Axi sits at the edge of the Memory Rivers and listens. Every toy that's ever been loved leaves a little hum in the water, and Axi tells those stories back — gently — to the children who need to hear that nothing soft is ever really lost.

Loves: Pebbles, lullabies, the names of things.

Boom, a Softling from Putty Plains

Boom

Putty Plains · The big-feelings friend

Lets big feelings burst out safely and playfully.

Boom is loud, generous and a little chaotic — the friend who shows children that anger, frustration and bigness aren't bad, they just need somewhere soft to land. He stomps, he laughs, he shakes the dust off, and then he sits down for a hug.

Loves: Drums, mud, jumping on the count of three.

Dumpling, a Softling from The Snugmoor

Dumpling

The Snugmoor · The softest place to land

Wraps shy hearts in the softest kind of comfort.

Dumpling is the cuddle of the Softlands. Quiet, warm and always there when a hug is needed — the Softling for the child who feels things deeply and would rather watch than wave. With Dumpling, gentle is its own kind of brave.

Loves: Blankets, slow songs, the last bit of daylight.

The map

Eight districts. One unfolding world.

The Softlands isn't one place — it's a patchwork of districts, each with its own weather, colour palette and feeling. The cosy Snugmoor for plushies and blankies. The mysterious Hush Hollows for the quiet old companions. The Whirlwood where everything spins, and the Clatterworks where everything pops. Wander a little and you'll meet the residents who call each one home.

Squish Quarter

Sunset-warm rooftops and bouncy alleyways where bravery is practised, not performed.

Slime Lagoon

Teal water and glassy reeds. Home of the Memory Rivers, where old feelings are listened to.

Putty Plains

Wide, stompable hills made for big feelings, big laughs and very soft landings.

The Snugmoor

An open, blanket-soft meadow where jellycats, plushies and well-loved blankies live. The cosiest corner of the map.

The Hush Hollows

Lantern-lit burrows where the mysterious old companions rest — pocket-pets, monster-friends and the toys whose batteries went quiet long ago.

The Crumble

A patchwork of attics and lost-property shelves where forgotten toys are remembered again. Nothing is thrown away here, only waited for.

The Whirlwood

A forest that turns. Spinners, tops and whirlers loop endlessly between the trees — dizzy, joyful, never quite still.

The Clatterworks

A bright, busy quarter of pops, zips, clicks and squeaks. The noisiest, most ticklish corner of the Softlands.

For parents

Made with the same care you read with.

The Softlands is written for primary-school-age children — roughly ages four to nine — and the parents reading along at the end of a long day. The stories are gentle, specific and emotionally literate: bravery without bravado, sadness without sentimentality, friendship without lessons hammered home.

Every personalised book is illustrated in the Softlands' handmade Pixar-soft style and built around your child's name, the feeling you'd like to explore, and the comfort toy they already love. Bedtime, big feelings, and small explorers — all welcome here.
